8 Ways I Keep Myself in Check

All of us, either consciously or subconsciously, always aspire to be on our A-Game. However, we come across several situations in our everyday life where there lies a great chance of falling off the grid. In such situations, I find it important to have self control and make better choices.

Here are some ways I keep myself in check-

1) Planning-

I write the schedule for the next day in my planner every night. This not only gives me a schedule that will help all my tasks for the week get completed little-by-little, but also help me manifest their completion. Besides, crossing out the tasks after I complete them is a fun game, and yes I am aware only I would put 'tasks' and 'fun game' in the same sentence.

2) Preparation-

Everybody knows planning does wonders when it comes to important things, but people often forget preparation. The difference between the two is as simple as thinking and doing, especially if it's something that I know I often mess up.

Something as little as prepping my clothes or making my bag for the next day, every single night, helps me avoid rushing in the morning and forgetting things, because I occasionally find it hard to wake up on time.

3) Avoiding Overstaying -

If I am at a social gathering, or simply at work or in college, I make sure I leave approximately when my time there is supposed to end.

Not wasting time lingering in college purposelessly after it ends helps me stay on schedule, and complete all my planned tasks for the day.

At a get-together or event, there is still a major schedule factor to it, but apart from that, it is also essential for me to be conscious of others' schedules. Even if I don't have any plans afterwards, I will make sure to be considerate of the fact that people do. It is often rude to overstay a social gathering due to this reason, except in certain extremely rare cases.

4) Self Pampering-

Self care comes in multiple forms, and simply developing a decent character and habit does count. But pampering myself in a positive way implies going the extra step ever so often is my way of taking a much-needed break. This, for me, includes giving myself a DIY facial, a manicure, and a pedicure once almost every weekend.

Everybody needs occasional relaxation, but taking the time to do something good for myself is the best version of it for me; I find it better than 'doing nothing'.

However, this does not include overindulging or binge eating/watching or anything of that sort. It is a ritual for me, and I am not exaggerating, therefore, it needs to be non-destructive or something that would cause me inconvenience later.

5) Eating Healthy-

This does not mean I eat leaves to survive, although that is probably the best way to go, but I make sure that I eat home-cooked meals at least 90% of the time. This is not only healthy but also economical.

Time is a major factor when it comes to meals. I consider it important to have 3 meals a day consisting of a balanced ancestral diet and not eat or drink anything except water after 8pm.

6) Walking-

With classes and work that includes practically no physical activity, I make sure I spend some time walking. I walk to the bus stand twice everyday, and around the house to do chores at home.

7) Negative Emotions and Grounding

We all receive a negative review/reaction every once in a while. Ever so often, it comes from a place of negativity or hate, but that is not the case every time.

Hence, I feel it is crucial to know when to take a negative reaction constructively.

However, life is about moving forward, so either way, I like to keep a positive attitude and know/do better next time instead of lamenting over a mistake I or someone made.

8) Avoiding Oversharing-

This includes sharing something that somebody entrusted you with, with someone else, or even sharing too many of personal details that might make someone uncomfortable or bored.

For treasuring people, keeping them on good terms and spreading love as much as I can, I make sure I am considerate towards them, and I feel like this is the least one could do.

So no matter what I choose to do at any given moment, I always remember, saying no to something means saying yes to something else.
